Laser Tattoo Removal

Many people have second thoughts about their tattoos. Fortunately, you don’t have to live with your decision forever. Highly precise lasers can lighten or remove your tattoo by focusing short pulses of laser light on the ink particles, selectively fragmenting and removing the ink while preserving healthy tissue.

Before the laser tattoo removal procedure begins, you will be given a shield to protect your eyes from the laser. Our tattoo removal specialists will then test your skin’s response to the laser to determine the most effective approach. Unlike many spas and laser facilities, we only treat tattoos with our state-of-the art Q-switched laser — the standard of care for optimal ink removal with minimal scarring. During and after treatment, patients may experience moderate but temporary discomfort, which can be managed with topical and/or injected anesthetics and icing. A typical laser tattoo removal session lasts only a few minutes, but may be longer for larger tattoos.

Results of laser tattoo removal will vary depending on the complexity of each tattoo (e.g. location, size, ink density, colors used). Individuals with simple black tattoos often enjoy clearance within four treatment sessions, however, more complicated tattoos may require ten or more treatment sessions. Patients with preexisting medical issues such as keloid formation, vitiligo, and risk factors for poor healing such as a smoking history or diabetes may be at a higher risk for laser-associated complications. For this reason, we always recommend a consultation prior to undergoing laser tattoo removal.
